’22 Instate PG Tamin Lipsey Reflects on Recent Iowa Visit

Fran McCaffery doesn’t project an image of being afraid. And there’s evidence to that effect when it comes to recruiting.

The Iowa coach is showing that when it comes to his pursuit of sophomore point guard Tamin Lipsey. The Ames High product resides in the shadow of Iowa State.

Lipsey returned to Iowa City last weekend for his third unofficial visit. He continued connecting with McCaffery.

“I have talked to coach McCaffery twice, and I think he is cool. He seems very energetic,” Lipsey told HN.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder already holds offers from the Cyclones and Nebraska, where former ISU player and coach Fred Hoiberg runs the program. Despite not yet jumping in with an opportunity, the Hawkeyes feel good about Lipsey.

“They really talked about the way they play, and how I would fit in their type of play,” he said.

Lipsey is becoming more comfortable with the Iowa program. He knows his way around and appreciates what it has to offer.

“It was my third time visiting, so I had already seen everything, but I like the campus feel and the facilities are nice,” he said. “I like the program, really just how they do things and the way they play.”

Lipsey is looking for a program that complements his skill set. He sees that with the Hawkeyes.

“I think I could fit in because I like to play fast but also in control, and coach (McCaffery) said his point guard has control of the team,” he said.

Lipsey is recovering from a torn ACL suffered during a scrimmage in June. It came after he helped Ames reach the state basketball tournament and also playing for the USA U16 team in Brazil. He was one of just eight freshmen in the country make that squad.
