Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Connor Colby Becomes Hawkeye

On a weekend when the Iowa coaches are focusing on filling out their 2020 recruiting class, they picked up a big commitment from a younger prospect. Cedar Rapids Kennedy junior Connor Colby announced on social media that he was pledging to the Hawkeyes.

Colby (6-6, 275) recently camped with Big Ten schools Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State. The offensive lineman confirmed his status as a top recruit by landing scholarship offers from all of them.

However, with two years of high school remaining and more opportunities likely coming his way, Colby decided he’d seen enough and wanted to stay close to home.

It made his mom happy.

Colby joins Lena (IL) Lena-Winslow High offensive lineman Gennings Dunker as a member of Iowa’s ’21 recruiting class. The latter came aboard on June 2 after earning an offer at camp.

Iowa is hoping for more good new this weekend as it plays host to 12 uncommitted official visitors. The Hawkeyes hold 14 known verbal commitments in the ’20 cycle.

Rivals and 247 view Colby as a four-star recruit. Both services see him as the second best player in state for ’21 behind Clear Creek Amana defensive end T.J. Bollers. Rivals rates him as the No. 26 offensive tackle nationally, while 247 has him at No. 25.

Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Virginia Tech also offered Colby scholarships. Notre Dame had been showing strong interest.
