The state of Iowa knew about Thomas Fidone’s talents. The country learned about them earlier this month.

The Class of 2021 tight end from Council Bluffs Lewis Central excelled at the All-American Games National Combine in San Antonio. On a slow track, his 4.7ish 40-yard dash was the 15th fastest overall among more than 600 participants at all positions. He was named a standout at the event by several services attending it.

“San Antonio was a great experience for me,” Fidone told HN. “It was a great opportunity to showcase my skills on a national level and prove myself, which I think I did a great job of.”

Fidone (6-5, 220) has added scholarship offers from Georgia, Florida, Missouri, Arkansas and Georgia tech since the beginning of this month. He already held opportunities from Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, Minnesota, Northwestern, Indiana, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Purdue and others.

“Right now, some schools standing out to me are Nebraska, Michigan and Iowa. Some other schools I like, as well, but still want to find out more about them,” he said.

The Huskers will play host to Fidone this coming weekend. It will be his second stop in Lincoln since September. He’ll schedule more visits this winter and spring based around his parents’ availability and his basketball season.

“I’m kind of take the recruiting process step by step and looking at all these schools one by one. I want to see how they run their offense and how they use their tight ends,” he said.

Fidone has visited Iowa four times since July, when the Hawkeyes offered a scholarship.

“I love Iowa and their coaches. They do a great job developing their tight ends. The only thing that scares me a little is they have a pretty full tight end room,” he said.

Iowa signed two tight ends (Sam LaPorta and Josiah Miamen) in the ’19 class and added two more (Elijah Yelverton and Luke Lachey) in ’20. LaPorta played well as a true freshman last season and Yelverton was expected to enroll in college next month after picking the Hawkeyes ahead of some of the nation’s top prorgams.

Lewis Central lineman Logan Jones signed with Iowa in the ’20 class, so it has another recruiter, and a friend, in Fidone’s ear.

“Me and Logan talk about it a lot, and what it would be like to have each other there (at Iowa),” Fidone said.

Fidone, who plans on studying medicine in college, hopes to commit somewhere this summer. His ascension on a national scale provides him with plenty of great options.

“The recruiting process has been crazy. Seeing it skyrocket is just a dream come true for me and my family. It just shows all the hard work and dedication I have put in is paying off. It’s also something me and my dad have been working on for as long as I can remember,” he said.

Rivals and 247 rank Fidone as a four-star recruit. The former views him as the No. 7 tight end nationally in the ’21 class, while the latter puts him ninth.

As a junior, Fidone caught 39 passes for 576 yards and seven touchdowns in helping Lewis Central reach the Class 3A state title game. He added 11 solo tackles and an interception on defense.
