Deontae Craig Joins Hawkeye Recruiting Class

Iowa added another piece to its 2020 recruiting class on Friday when Indiana defensive end Deontae Craig announced on social media that he was committing to the Hawkeyes.

Craig (6-3, 235) brings the Hawkeyes’ total of known pledges in the current cycle to 23. The Culver (IN) Academies High standout joins Logan Jones, Michael Lois, Yahya Black, Aaron Witt, Isaiah Bruce and Lukas Van Ness as guys in the class projected at defensive line.

Iowa played host to Craig on an official visit in June when it brought into town in many of the committed players and top targets in the class. The Hawkeyes offered him a scholarship back on May 1.

Craig reported scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Washington State, among others. He recently stated that he would be choosing between Iowa and the home-state Hoosiers.

Rivals and 247 rank Craig as a three-star recruit. The former sees him as the No. 16 weak-side defensive end nationally and the No. 2 player overall in Indiana for ’20, while the latter has him at No. 34 and No. 5.
