Diante Vines Finds Home with Hawkeyes

Iowa added known verbal commitment No. 21 Wednesday night when Connecticut receiver Diante Vines announced he was pledging to the Hawkeyes.

“Iowa just felt right for me,” Vines told HN. “After the visit and gaining a sense of what the coaches and players were about, it fit the image I thought about when thinking about college.

“Just seeing how real the coaches truly were and how I could best develop in Iowa ultimately was the deciding factor. It was a choice I felt put me in the best spot to have me final dream come true (NFL) and also where I could study my major.”

Vines officially visited Iowa during the weekend of June 23. He talked with HN about the stop.

“I liked the family environment that I got from the staff, team and recruits. It truly felt like like home with how comforting it was. And the facilities were just beautiful,” Vines told us after the visit.

When the Hawkeyes offered Vines a scholarship back in May, he told HN that it brought tears of joy to his mother’s eyes. Assistants Ken O’Keefe and Kelton Copeland, who coaches receivers, visited him in at the Watertown (CT) Taft School that month, and liked what the saw and heard.

Last season, Vines caught 51 passes for 602 yards and 12 touchdowns in eight games. He added 181 kick-return yards with a score.

Rivals and 247 rank Vines (6-1, 190) as a three-star recruit. He also reports offers from Boston College and Syracuse, among others.
