Tyler McLaurin stands out as one of the most sought-after linebackers in the Midwest. The Bolingbrook (IL) High junior reports 15 scholarship offers, including seven from Big Ten programs.

Iowa became the latest entry into the McLaurin sweepstakes when it offered an opportunity on Thursday. He’s become familiar with the school.

His older brother, Jeremie McLaurin, is a freshman Engineering major there.

“Getting an offer from Iowa means a lot because I know a lot of family members who have high praise for Iowa. My brother goes to Iowa, which allows me to stay close to him,” Tyler said.

Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Purdue, Texas Tech and Virginia are among the other schools to have offered Tyler McLaurin a scholarship. He’s visited Illinois, Michigan State and Nebraska, along with Louisville, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Wisconsin, all of whom could still offer.

While Tyler is more familiar with the university overall than the football program because of his brother, he understands what makes the Hawkeyes go.

“I love the tradition at Iowa. I also love their idea of buying in for the team. They have a ton of background and passion in their program,” he said.

Linebacker coach Seth Wallace also recruits McLaurin’s area. That makes for a special bond.

“I like his passion to create a better man instead of just a player. I know he wants me to be a versatile type player, mixing both inside and out,” McLaurin said.

While campus stops have halted due to the concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, McLaurin (6-3, 215) has his sights on seeing the Hawkeyes in person.

“When recruiting opens back up, I plan on at least taking another visit before going into officials,” he said.

McLaurin thinks he’ll know when he finds the right place for him.

“The most important part in choosing a school to me is my family and the fit I have in the community. I plan on committing in July or August,” he said.

McLaurin will major in Computer Programing.

Rivals and 247 rank McLaurin as a three-star prospect. The former sees him as the No. 27 outside linebacker in the 2021 recruiting cycle, while the latter puts him at 37.

Here’s a look at McLaurin’s junior highlights:
