There’s something about your first. That’s true in love and football scholarship offers.

Issac Hamm found out about the latter in late January when he attended an Iowa junior day. At its conclusion, the Class of 2022 Wisconsin defensive end had a Hawkeye offer.

“It meant a lot receiving my Iowa offer because I felt like I have always gone unnoticed and there was a school that believed in me and took a chance on me, which was incredible,” he told HN.

The home-state Badgers offered a scholarship four days later. It also impacted the Sun Prairie (WI) High standout.

“I have grown up a Badger fan. I also have a great relationship with the coaches at the university,” he said.

The 247 network already ranks Hamm (6-5, 265) as a four-star prospect and the 105th best player regardless of position nationally in his recruiting cycle.

Despite growing up rooting for Wisconsin, Hamm is open to Iowa. He likes lead recruiter Tim Polasek and position coach Kelvin Bell.

“My relationships with Coach P and Coach Bell are incredible. I know they are two guys I could trust with anything,” Hamm said.

He received an up-close look at the Hawkeyes during his junior day visit. It provided a good feel for what they are about.

“From the environment of Iowa City to the finer things of the program, such as nutrition and strength and conditioning and everything in between, were things I really liked,” he said.

The staff sees Hamm slotting in well along its four-man front.

“The coaches think I could be a good fit at Iowa because I’m a decent athlete right now and I have potential to be great if I work hard. I’m not sure how Iowa uses their defensive ends, but I do know several names of great D-Ends produced there, which is promising,” he said.

Only half way through his high school career, Hamm isn’t rushing through the process. Finding the right fit over time is important.

“For the rest of my recruitment, I just want to focus on having fun playing high school football and work hard every day,” he said.
