Iowa added a commitment to its 2021 recruiting class on Sunday. It came with an interesting connection.

“I feel like Iowa will be a great fit for me for school and football,” Justice Sullivan told HN Sunday. “I also feel like with their developmental program it will make me the best player I could be. I committed now just because I felt like it’s the right time. There was no point in me waiting when I have such an amazing opportunity to play at a place like that.”

The Eden Prairie (MN) linebacker is the son of former Iowa State basketball standout, Jake Sullivan. Dad bit the bullet after his son’s choice.

Sullivan (6-2, 225) becomes the fourth pledge in the Hawkeyes’ ’21 class. He joins Urbandale linebacker Jaden Harrell, Cedar Rapids Kennedy lineman Connor Colby and Gennings Dunker, a lineman from Illinois.

“I just feel really confident in my decision, and now I can focus on my high school team and winning a state championship next year,” Sullivan said.

Iowa offered Justice Sullivan a scholarship following a junior day last February. It was the first program to extend him an opportunity. Minnesota and Nebraska followed.

At the time, Jake Sullivan joked about visiting Iowa City. Justice told HN at the time that his father really enjoyed the stop.

“He wouldn’t have a problem with anywhere that I go. He said I can pick whatever is best for me,” Justice said in February.

Iowa is looking at Sullivan as a linebacker or defensive end, depending on how his body develops.

What will be bring to the Hawkeye program?

“Someone who is very competitive, a great leader and hard worker. I’m also someone who is going to do whatever to take takes for the team to win,” Sullivan said.
