Hawkeyes Haul in Chicago Guard Ahron Ulis

Iowa basketball has started the week well.

On Monday, Class of 2020 instate big man Xavier Foster included the Hawkeyes among his Top 5 schools. Tuesday, Chicago-area point guard Ahron Ulis verbally committed to them.

Iowa offered Ulis a scholarship last month. After picking up the opportunity, he told HN how much he liked the program.

Ulis learned about the Hawkeyes when his older brother, Tyler Ulis, was being recruited by them. Tyler broke their heart by picking Kentucky.

Ahron Ulis (6-2, 185) chose Iowa ahead of offers from DePaul, Illinois-Chicago, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Siena, South Dakota, Southern Illinois, Toledo, Tulane and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It’s been reported that his game improved this spring and summer, catching the attention of high major programs.

The younger Ulis brings a different game than his brother, who is a smaller, speedier lead guard. While Ahron lacks the quickness of his sibling, he boasts size and an ability to play both backcourt spots.

Ulis gives Iowa its first pledge in the ’20 cycle. The Hawkeyes could have four scholarships available for filling in this class.

Foster (7-0, 225) ranks as the top target remaining in the board. He has the Hawkeyes in his Top 5 with Iowa State, Baylor, Providence and Virginia Tech.
