Hawkeyes Land Commitment from ’20 Instate RB Gavin Williams

Iowa landed a key recruit in its 2020 Class Friday night when in-state running back Gavin Williams chose the Hawkeyes. He told HN it came down to a feeling.

“Iowa is like family to me and my family is the most important thing to me. So, that’s why I chose the Iowa family that I’m now a part of,” Williams told HN in a message.

He chose the Hawkeyes ahead of offers from Iowa State, Michigan and Nebraska. Others were interested.

Williams (6-0, 195) shook off early-season injuries to rush for 1,309 yards on 222 carries for a 5.9-yard average in leading underdog Southeast Polk to the Class 4A state semifinals. He ran for 12 touchdowns, including a 71-yarder. He added eight receptions for 41 yards and averaged 23.1 yards on nine kick returns.

The 247 network ranks Williams as a four-star prospect, the No. 18 running back nationally in the ’20 cycle and the No. 1 player overall in Iowa. Rivals sees him as a three-star and the 5th-best player in the state for his grade.
