Iowa continued its success within a loaded in-state 2021 recruiting class on Saturday. West Branch lineman Jeff Bowie verbally committed to the Hawkeyes, giving them five home-grown pledges in the cycle.

“I chose Iowa because they have everything I wanted,” Bowie told HN. “The Hawks develop better than anywhere else, and I know that me and coach (Kelvin) Bell both only want me to get better. Plus, I don’t think you can ask for a better head coach (Kirk Ferentz).”

The Hawkeyes topped a large group of suitors for the local prospect. Iowa State, Indiana, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech were among the programs that had offered an opportunity. Notre Dame, Wisconsin and others were showing serious interest.

Iowa added Bowie to in-state ’21 commitments from Griffin Liddle (Bettendorf), Jaden Harrell (Urbandale), Zach Twedt (Roland-Story) and Connor Colby (Cedar Rapids Kennedy). They’ve also offered T.J. Bollers (Clear Creek Amana), Thomas Fidone (Council Bluffs Lewis Central) and Brody Brecht (Ankeny Senior).

Bowie (6-5, 245) played both ways for the 10-1 Bears, excelling at defensive end and offensive tackle. He finished the campaign with 45.5 tackles, including 15.0 solo tackles for loss and seven more assists on tackles for loss. He recorded 6.5 sacks. He returned a recovered fumble 93 yards for a touchdown.

Rivals and 247 rank Bowie as a three-star prospect. The former sees him as the No. 30 strong-side defensive end nationally in ’21 and has him No. 7 overall in Iowa. The latter puts him at No. 31 and No. 6.
