Jay Higgins’ relationship with Iowa stretches back a couple of years. It’s been built into something special.

The Hawkeyes took the next step with the Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit linebacker last week, offering him a scholarship, his first from a Power 5 program.

“I’ve been in contact with coach (Seth) Wallace and coach (Kelvin) Bell for a while. Coach Wallace called and gave me an offer. I was excited that I had an opportunity to play at Iowa,” he told HN.

Higgins visited the Hawkeyes for a junior day in March of 2018. He camped with them last June and returned to campus for a game last season.

“I know that it’s easy to be successful in the program if you work hard,” he said.

Higgins (6-2, 215) has scheduled an official visit with Iowa for the weekend of June 21. The Hawkeyes were expecting many of their verbal commitments and top targets to attend.

“I’m not planning on going to any camps this summer. I also have not scheduled any other visits yet,” he said.

Rivals ranks Higgins as a three-star prospect, while 247 sees him as a two-star and the No. 30 player in Indiana for ’20.
