Jay Higgins’ relationship with Iowa stretches back a couple of years. It’s been built into something special.

The Hawkeyes took the next step with the Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit linebacker last week, offering him a scholarship, his first from a Power 5 program.

“I’ve been in contact with coach (Seth) Wallace and coach (Kelvin) Bell for a while. Coach Wallace called and gave me an offer. I was excited that I had an opportunity to play at Iowa,” he told HN.

Higgins visited the Hawkeyes for a junior day in March of 2018. He camped with them last June and returned to campus for a game last season.

“I know that it’s easy to be successful in the program if you work hard,” he said.

Higgins (6-2, 215) has scheduled an official visit with Iowa for the weekend of June 21. The Hawkeyes were expecting many of their verbal commitments and top targets to attend.
