Long Snapper Luke Elkin Announces Commitment to Hawkeyes

Iowa picked up a key addition to its 2021 recruiting class on Tuesday when Wisconsin long snapper Luke Elkin committed to the program. He joined a rich history at the position. He will be walking on.

“Being on campus a couple times, a good relationship with coach (LeVar) Woods and (coach Tim) Polasek, and the Iowa tradition being awesome are the reasons I chose Iowa,” Elkin told HN.

Kohl’s Kicking ranks Elkin as the No. 9 long snapper in his recruiting cycle. It had this to say about the Neenah (WI) High product:

Elkin is a special kind of talent within this 2021 class. He brings the explosiveness, athleticism and size that make him a prospect to keep an eye on. Elkin performed great at the Kohl’s National Scholarship Camp scoring on 9 out of 12 long snaps and posted an impressive .66 second average snap time. Elkin also won the speed gun competition by snapping the ball 38 MPH.

Assistants Polasek and Woods, who coaches special teams, led the Hawkeyes recruitment of Elkin. Purdue, North Dakota, North Dakota State and South Dakota also showed interest in him.

“I have a good relationship with coach Woods. I know I’ve got to earn my spot. I have to fight for the starting spot to get a scholarship,” Elkin said.

Iowa graduated starting long snapper Jackson Subbert along with his backup, Nate Vejvoda, off of last year’s team. It brought back senior Austin Spiewak and redshirt freshman Zach Kluver for next season.

“It feels great to be done with the recruiting process and knowing where I will be for the next 4-5 years. I’m super excited for what the future holds,” Elkin said.
