Michael Lois Signing, Aussie Punter Added, Walk-Ons Announced by Iowa Football

It’s a relatively quiet late signing day for Iowa football after hauling in a big group during the December early period. It’s not without some additions, however.

Michael Lois, a defensive end from Wisconsin, signed his national letter of intent Wednesday, Iowa announced. He suffered a serious injury during the summer of ’18, which we talked with him about on our HN Prospect Podcast in December. He’s been working to get back on the field and his future on it remains up in the air.

“Today’s a dream come true,” Lois told HN. “I know I made the right choice since day one, and I’m very thankful they are still sticking by my side. I can’t wait to come down and start.

“I want to make an impact for the Hawks even if it’s not on the field. I’m looking forward to working with the kids at children’s hospital and the veterans at the VA.”

A rumor regarding a punter from Australia came to fruition as well. The Hawkeyes signed Tory Taylor from Haileybury College in Melbourne. He trained at the same kicking school that produced Michael Sleep-Dalton, who punted for Iowa last season after graduate transferring from Arizona State.

The Hawkeyes also released a list of nine preferred walk-ons. The group included five in-state athletes, two from Illinois, and one each from California and Missouri.
