Isaac McKneely sits in the early stages of his recruiting process. The 2022 West Virginia guard is learning about college programs and building relationships with coaches.

Iowa became one of the latest schools to offer the Poca (WV) High product a scholarship, doing so earlier this week.

“It meant a lot to get that Iowa offer,” McKneely told HN.

The Wildcat Select AAU member is in regular contact with Hawkeye head coach Fran McCaffery and assistant Courtney Eldridge.

“I like how honest they are. They’re always asking how I’m doing, and they’re really involved,” McKneely said.

At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds heading into his junior high school season, McKneely has college coaches dreaming on his skill set.

“I’m a combo guard who can really shoot it. I’m athletic and long, and I know how to play the game the right way,” he said.

McKneely earned first-team all-state honors last season after landing on the second unit as a freshman. He’s impressed with what he’s seen from the Hawkeyes’ system.

“I really like the way they play. Their style of play really fits how I like to play,” he said.

COVID-19 stretched the recruiting dead period through July. It started in March.

“I’d say I will make the trip out to Iowa sometime soon if visits are allowed,” he said.

The NCAA announced this week that it plans on lifting some of the recruiting restrictions brought on by the pandemic in mid-August. It only addresses off-campus meetings and evaluations.

In addition to Iowa, McKneely reports scholarship offers from Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, NC State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Xavier and others. Indiana, Ohio State, Virginia and more are showing him interest.

“At this point, any school is an option. I have a lot of great options, and I will probably narrow it down here soon. I probably won’t make a decision until the fall before my senior year, but I don’t know for sure though,” he said.

Rivals ranks McKneely as a four-star recruit and the No. 77 player nationally in ’22.
