IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa began last week without a defensive back commitment in its 2020 recruiting class. It’s added four of them during that time.

Mobile (AL) St. Paul’s safety Reginald Bracy II became the latest secondary member on Monday when he announced his pledge to the Hawkeyes. He officially visited here this weekend.

Iowa extended a scholarship offer to Bracy (6-1, 195) in early April. He told HN last month that he was building a strong bond with the Hawkeyes.

Bracy also reported scholarship offers from Indiana, Air Force, Central Michigan, Navy, Southern Miss, UAB and others. He officially visited the Hoosiers last weekend.

Iowa assistant Derrick Foster, an Alabama native, led Iowa’s recruitment of Bracy.

“Coach Foster is a great human. First, he takes care of his family, which makes him a great coach,” Bracy told HN last month.

“I talk to him a lot. He is a great recruiter. We just sit down and have everyday conversation, and it’s a genuine connection.”

Rivals and 247 rank Bracy as a three-star prospect. The former sees him as the No. 52 player in his state for ’20, while the latter puts him at No. 32 and as the No. 48 safety nationally in his class.

St. Paul’s Episcopal owns a strong history of producing top players. Former Alabama and current Houston Texans quarterback A.J. McCarron is an alumnus as is Steelers linebacker Mark Barron.

Bracy also plays running back for St. Paul’s, which won large school state titles in ’07, ’14, ’15 and ’17.

Iowa has added five verbal commitments from its big weekend of official visitors. Bracy brought the total number of known pledges in the cycle to 19, which includes four projected defensive backs.
