Tony Perkins arrived in Iowa City this weekend for his official visit hoping to feel welcomed.

Mission accomplished.

The Class of 2020 Indianapolis Lawrence North High guard picked up a Hawkeyes’ offer earlier this month. His campus stop solidified his feelings for them.

“I’m feeling great about Iowa. It’s No. 1 on my list,” Perkins told HN Sunday.

“The facility was good, but the love the community brings to Hawkeye basketball stood out most. It’s very supportive. There are great people there,” he said.

Perkins (6-4, 185) also reports scholarship offers from Ball State, Bradley and Miami (Ohio) among others. The 247 rankings show him as a three-star prospect and the No. 78 rated shooting guard in the cycle.

Perkins told HN that he doesn’t have any more recruiting visits set up or a timeline for his commitment decision. He’s looking to major in Sports Broadcasting or Sports Communications in college.

“I liked everything about him. He was focused and talented,” Perkins said.

Perkins received strong, positive vibes from the Iowa coaches. He saw himself fitting well into the Hawkeyes’ style of play.

“I’m a physical player. I’ll bring energy and tempo,” he said.

Head coach Fran McCaffery impressed Perkins.

“He’s very caring. He loves his players and treats everyone like family; outstanding coach,” he said.

The Hawkeyes have received one commitment in the ’20 class. It came from Chicago-area point guard Ahron Ulis.

Iowa is waiting on the decisions of a pair of big men in the cycle. Oskaloosa’s Xavier Foster and Josh Ogundele from Massachusetts are scheduled to announce their intentions next month.
