Yahya Black began his first of back-to-back weekend visits with Iowa on Friday. The Minnesota defensive end worked out at the Hawkeyes camp even though he already held a scholarship offer.

He realized shortly after arrival that he didn’t need more convincing during the rest of the month. He announced on Twitter Friday night that he was committing to the Hawkeyes.

“I feel a great energy when I’m there. The coaches are great people. I couldn’t ask for more,” he told HN.

Black’s pledge didn’t come as a surprise. The Marshall (MN) High standout told HN earlier this week that he’d bonded with defensive line coach Kelvin Bell and felt Iowa would bring out the best of him in the future.

Rivals and 247 list Black as a three-star prospect. The former sees him as the No. 7 player in Minnesota for ’20, while the latter places him eighth.

Black became the 12th known verbal commitment in the Hawkeyes’ ’20 recruiting class. He joined Michael Lois, Isaiah Bruce and Logan Jones as defensive linemen in the group.
