IOWA CITY, Iowa – A look back at how some Iowa Football commitments performed this past weekend:

  • Odebolt Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove (OABCIG) senior quarterback Cooper DeJean continued running by the competition on Friday during the Class 1A No. 1-ranked Falcons’ 49-22 victory against No. 3 Underwood. He completed 21 of 36 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns, and added 273 yards and four scores on 23 rushes.

For the season, DeJean (6-2, 195) has completed 91 of 158 passes for 1,709 yards and 17 touchdowns against 5 interceptions. He’s rushed 66 times for 621 yards (9.4 YPC) and 11 scores. For good measure, he’s added 26.5 tackles, 120 yards and a touchdown on two kick returns, and 55 yards and a score on three punt returns.

DeJean verbally committed to the Hawkeyes in March. They told him they see him as a safety.

  • Joey Labas, Iowa’s 2021 quarterback commitment from Brecksville-Broadview Heights (OH) High, led his 10th-ranked team to a 45-35 victory against Wadsworth. The big-play signal caller tossed touchdown passes of 69, 40 and 33 yards as well as running one into the end zone himself from 31 yards out, which sealed the victory.

  • Receiver Arland Bruce IV debuted for No. 3 Ankeny (IA) High Friday night after being ruled ineligible for five weeks after transferring in from the Kansas City area. The third-ranked Hawks hammered No. 9 Johnston, 49-0.

Bruce (5-10, 195) lined up at receiver and running back. He caught three balls for 24 yards and rushed 11 times for 62. He totaled three touchdowns.

  • Urbandale with Iowa commitments Jaden Harrell and Max Llewellyn was idle this week. The J-Hawks were scheduled to play Des Moines East, whose season is on hold because of the school district’s on-line only learning model.
  • West Branch (IA) High pulled out at 28-21 victory at Durant Friday night. Hawkeye defensive end pledge Jeff Bowie was credited with a pair of tackles and a sack. He anchored an offensive line that racked up 327 yards and 20 first downs.
  • Cedar Rapids (IA) Kennedy snapped a two-game skid with a 48-21 victory against visiting Waterloo West. Connor Colby anchored a Cougar offensive line that paved the way for 339 rushing yards and six scores on the ground.
  • Bettendorf (IA) High picked up a 21-7 victory at Muscatine. Defensive lineman Griffin Liddle helped silence a Muskie offense that had been rolling up. He has 6.5 tackles for loss this season.
  • Receiver Keagan Johnson and his Bellevue (NE) West team were off this week.
  • Tampa (FL) Gaither High rolled over Fivay Friday night. Jordan Oladokun, coming to Iowa as a defensive back, helped the Cowboys in multiple ways. He aided the defense in a shutout, racked up 69 receiving yards, returned a punt for nine yards and was credited with a pancake block.
  • Blue Springs (MO) High dropped a difficult 38-35 decision to Lee’s Summit North Friday. Lineman Beau Stephens took part in a strong offensive effort from the Wildcats.

  • Four-star Eden Prairie (MN) High linebacker/defensive end Justice Sullivan learned recently that the state was kicking off its prep season on Oct. 9. That day, the Eagles were scheduled to begin their six-game schedule at Minnetonka. Minnesota originally postponed its fall season to the spring before reversing course last month.
  • Illinois still is planning on a spring prep football season. Hawkeye commitments Gennings Dunker, David Davidkov and Jeremiah Pitman hail from the Land of Lincoln.
  • Story City (IA) Roland Story athlete Zach Twedt dislocated his shoulder during the middle of last month and will miss the remainder of the season.
